Tell us a bit about yourself!
I graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology with an associate’s degree in advertising and communication and from Rutgers University with a Bachelor’s degree in English.
I’ve been a proofreader, copy editor, and freelance writer. Currently, I’m a project manager for the public affairs office at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, RI (that’s where I met Madeleine!!). My job includes writing articles, producing videos, hosting podcasts, and executing the communications plan for the Advanced Naval Technology Exercise.
Q&A with Susan
1. What is your biggest challenge when it comes to living a more sustainable lifestyle?
My biggest challenge when it comes to living a more sustainable lifestyle is recalibrating my need to buy things. It’s a compulsion that I struggle with whenever I go into a store. To counter that, I’ve been practicing mindful consumerism and it’s helped me to really think about things before I buy them. Do I really need this? is a question I ask myself constantly. I am my biggest hurdle when it comes to a more sustainable lifestyle!
2. What does ethical/sustainable living mean to you?
For me, ethical/sustainable living is about not doing any damage to the world. I wouldn’t go to someone’s house and make a mess and destroy things and so why would I do that to the planet?
3. What is one random fact most people don’t know about you?
I really, really enjoy correcting grammar and punctuation (when asked!). It’s the same feeling of satisfaction that I get from vacuuming.
